The Anaheim Ducks announced a new General Manager early Saturday before proceeding to rip-off three straight wins to end the season. The Ducks finished out of the playoffs, despite playing in the relatively weak Pacific Division. Still, the win streak to end the season gives some hope to fans for next year -- as well as the prospect of entirely new management.
When asked what fans should expect next season, the new General Manager simply said, "Change." The team has an enormous number of free agents heading into the offseason. "Our first priority will be to come to terms with Corey Perry," said Hammack. "He's a franchise player, and we need him. Fortunately, we have a lot of flexibility financially. I'm positive we'll get something done."
One local radio personality took it a little further, "If Corey Perry is willing to stay here, the new management should be backing up Brinks trucks to his house filled with cash, hookers and blow and anything else he might possibly desire," said DJ Daryl Lect. "I'm not saying Corey Perry likes hookers and blow, but let's be honest, who doesn't?"
The General Manager was more circumspect about other impending free agents. "There are a lot of names that probably won't be back," said Hammack. "That's just the reality of the situation. We'll be looking for value up and down the roster, and we'll certainly target a few players already on the roster, but we have a lot of cap room and we'll see how it develops." He also didn't rule out shaping the roster by trading. "It's certainly something we'll look at when that time comes," he offered.
In all, it was your typically bland press conference filled with trite and bland statements as expected.
