In order to retain a players RFA rights, the initial offer must be at least a 10% raise from it's previous contract.
Is this a hard and fast rule? I present to you exhibit A.
Patrick O'Sullivan LW 25 5 ft 11 190 lbs 2,388,000 1 year
There is no way he is worth $2,626,800. Can we take players to arbitration?

in the nhl - even if you take players to arbitration they'll get awarded - minimum - the same amount of $$ they made last season.
if you dont think he's worth it then dont tender him a contract offer....

lol. you're looking for rule changes for the betterment of your team, and thats not what they're there for. if you think someones too expensive, then trade him, dont try to change the rules to get his salary decreased

Right now, there is no arbitration and yes that 10% rule is for all RFAs. The only thing I can suggest is not tender him an offer and try and re-sign him as a UFA.
