I think despite people making trades to accommodate this rule, it needs to be changed. There are 23 teams with salaries over $60 mil, and 3 more within $58-59 mil. That's 81% of the league operating within 90% of the allowable cap space. Real life leagues have caps and that's fine, but no league has any rules regarding who they can and cannot send down. I agree with not being able to hide high value contracts, but not letting us demote a young 75ov who doesn't fit on our pro roster for arbitrary reasons really handcuffs the overwhelming majority of the league. Trading will grind to a halt because save for like 6 teams, no one has any cap space. Not trying to go all Alex here, but this needs to be looked at. Agreed to a point - but this is kind off egg/chicken here. It's the old story that another major issue is FA bidding. Using my team as an example, I am under all of the same restrictions as every other team. I am well under the cap. The main reason is that I didn't sign one major FA because all of my bids were fiscally responsible. I made all of my bids with the understanding that if I got them all, I would stay under the cap. The teams that now find themselves over probably didn't use that thinking. This cannot be the systems fault, or I would be over the cap as well. I'm not saying the system is working, but I am saying to blame the system for all of those teams being over isn't entirely fair. I counted on teams being in a cap panic and being able to trade for the right fit. That only works if the salary and OV caps are being enforced. Raise the cap, raise the OV Farm limit and we will be right back here again 3 seasons from then. I agree with the offseason point that the chart has to be looked at, and Nick has agreed with that. The OV cap has to be looked at too - agreed. But the thing that needs to be looked at the most in my mind is Free Agency and a way to stop teams from buying so many guys that they blow over the cap. My two cents..or three cents if we increase that as well. "Going all Alex here" - BAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!

I think the cap issue is sell regulating. Or should be. If guys have to waive players to get out from their contracts, so be it. I am RIGHT at the cap after a handful of guys signed on phase III that I figured I might get one of. But them's are the breaks. I'm not looking for cap relief via rule change. I definitely think that part is a "made your bed; lie in it" situation. Teams have plenty of money. They can start buying out contracts (we've already seen that) or they can waive guys or trade them for peanuts or be stuck in a situation where they can't make trades unless they're dollar for dollar. I'm all for vigourously policing the salary cap.

I think $65 million is honestly a fair amount. Those ridiculous contracts seem to be going away. I understand Open Market will garner a bit of overpaying, which is fine, but $12 mill a year for guys like Krejci/Sedin is not going to happen. It will hamstring your team so bad its not worth it.
I am one of the teams with gems all over, and every year I pretty much have to pick and choose who i want to keep, and who I want to trade. I dont feel i always get fair value on my guys because of the cap, but hey, thats the situation and you deal with it. No complaining here.

I really think if we change up the free agent chart and account more for the fact that ratings are progressing pretty well, things will settle out.
I'm not a fan of changing things midseason, so the cap wont be going up at all this season.
We'll also re-address the farm rules at the end of the season.
As for teams being over the cap or breaking the farm rules, we're going to be monitoring that very closely this season to assure that all teams are playing by the same rules.
